Parties To Be Urgently Ordered Into Court
News Limited Media are today reporting that Family Court Chief Justice Alstergren is commencing an onslaught in the Family Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court that will target cases that have been languishing in those courts for between eighteen months and four years.
Family Court Blitz
Although there has been no official media release or practice note issued by the Court, it is understood from the reports that the blitz will include Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle as well as other Courts across Australia.
“It is unfortunately well known amongst the community the lengthy waiting times in the Family Court/Federal Circuit Court” said Vizzone Ruggero Twigg Partner Lisa Ruggero-Salerno.
“In Family Law there are issues with young children with significant psychological and financial stressors at play it is unacceptable that people have to fight for years waiting for the Family Court/Federal Circuit Court to determine their matter if they cannot settle. Also it becomes a significant factor in negotiations because following the breakdown of marriage or relationship parties need quick resolution not years of litigation with a high financial and personal cost. More Judges are needed and it is good to see the backlog is being tackled.”
“It’s why our Family Law team at Vizzone Ruggero Twigg Lawyers welcomes any news that Courts are attempting to clear any backlog,” said Lisa Ruggero-Salerno.
